For the following days, I am inspired to place the words of theosophist Alice A. Bailey and the Tibetan disciple Djwhal Khul on my website. Words are energy and these words come from the Book titled “Esoteric Healing”. May these words spread light and healing to all who read them and may they be inspired to greatness within themselves.

The astral body is, for the majority of people, the major determining factor to be considered for ill-health. The physical body is an automaton of whichever inner body is the strongest and disease is an activity of the physical plane. Two streams of energy must be considered in studying the factor leading to physical plane actions:

  1. The stream of life itself, anchored in the heart, determines the vitality of the person, their capacity for work and the term of their existence.
  2. The predominating stream of energy coming from the astral, mental or soul bodies. These control a person’s expression on the physical plane.

Ultimately, the time finally comes when a person works with three types of energy, the energy of life itself, the negative energy of the personality and the positive energy of the soul. Thus a person is a conscious manifestation of the three aspects of the Trinity.

It is important to understand that there is nothing but energy and that energy manifests itself in many differing and varying energies. The major focal point of energy to be found in human beings is that of the soul. The main energy centres in the physical body are in the head and the heart. There are seven main centres that constitute the quality and the consciousness aspects of a person. The energy centres are aligned with the endocrine centres of the body and are subject to both overstimulation and dissipation causing discomfort and disease.

Head – Pineal gland; Ajna (between the eyes) – Pituitary gland; Heart – Thymus; throat – thyroid; Solar plexus – Pancreas; Sacral centre – sex glands; Base of spine – adrenals.

Uncontrolled and ill-regulated emotions can travel between the centres, which is why it is so important to purify the centres to clear the channels and allow the entry of higher energies. Emotional energies can also be carried over from life to life and result in more serious diseases requiring physical and/or psychological intervention.

  1. Disease is a purificatory process carried out in order to produce a purer expression. When this is the case, a cure is possible.
  2. Disease can be a gradual and slow process of dying and thus releasing of the soul. A cure then will not be possible.
  3. Disease can be the sudden and final call to the body to relinquish the soul and set it free for other service.

The astral body is the prime motivating factor in the lives of most people. The astral body is an aggregate of forces, working through into the consciousness in the form of desires, impulses, longings, wishes, determinations, incentives and projections, thus laying the basis for much of the truth of the teachings of modern psychology.

The following is the synthesis of the structure:

  1. The Soul.
  2. The subtler bodies of the mind and emotions, which are simply qualified energy centres.
  3. The vital body with its seven major centres of force.
  4. The endocrine system, which is an effect of the seven centres, and the determining controlling factor in the physical body of man.
  5. The nervous system in its three divisions.
  6. The blood stream (as a carrier of the life principle).

The three centres in supreme control today for the majority of people are:

  1. The ajna centre.
  2. The solar plexus
  3. The sacral centre.

Eventually, when man will have “become that which he is”, the centres of control will be:

  1. The head centre.
  2. The heart centre.
  3. The centre at the base of the spine.

It can be seen that disease emerges into the physical body from the world of the unseen. Disease can be generally regarded as due to the following causes:

  1. Individual disease, due to a person’s inner world, to his or her mental state or emotional condition, which is inherited from the past.
  2. Disease inherent to humanity as a whole i.e. infections, pandemics.
  3. Disease caused by accidents or war.
  4. Diseases which are the difficulties of mysticism. These can be traced in every case to the pouring in of energies through centres that are not properly equipped or adequately developed to handle the force.
